Chetumal, Q.R. — The main suspect in the murder of a Chetumal woman has been captured in the neighboring state of Yucatan. On Wednesday, elements of the State Investigation Police (PEI) announced the arrest of a Quintana Roo man wanted in the murder of an elderly woman.
“The Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), arrested Wilberth Alberto E. P., alias “Torero”, 24 years old, originally from Chetumal, Quintana Roo, accused of femicide,” they reported in a statement.
According to authorities, Wilberth “P” was wanted for the slaying of a 94-year-old woman in her Chetumal home in September of this year. He is accused of entering her home with the intention of robbing her, at which time he beat and sexually assaulted her until she died.
“The victim is a 94-year-old woman, who on September 22, was alone in her home in the Salvador Alvarado Sur neighborhood.
“Based on the evidence obtained by investigating agents and prosecutors, the individual broke into the house, hit the woman repeatedly, sexually abused her and caused her death,” the SSP detailed in their statement.
The suspect was arrested by Yucatan police on an outstanding warrant from the state of Quintana Roo.
