Chetumal, Q.R. — Chetumal police have arrested a man in the stabbing deaths of a woman and her minor daughter. The bodies of both females were found inside a Chetumal home Monday night.
Emergency responders arrived at an address on Tlaxcaltongo Street in Chetumal where they confirmed the report of a deceased woman and young girl. Police have not released identifying information regarding the deceased, however, the girl is reported to have been nine years old.
Both were reportedly stabbed to death. Police have not said when the murders happened or how long the bodies were in the home before being discovered.
What they have reported was that a man, the partner of the now-deceased woman, has been arrested in relation to the murders. At the time of his arrest, he was found with self-inflicted wounds and was under the influence of narcotics.
Authorities say he was taken to hospital under police guard in serious condition.
In a statement, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) of Quintana Roo said “the agency reports the arrest of a man who is suspected of being responsible for the events in which a woman and a minor were found dead in a home.
“This agency opened an investigation for the crime of femicide. The detainee, identified as the woman’s partner, was found with self-inflicted injuries and under the influence of prohibited substances.
“He is currently hospitalized and his health condition is reported as serious. We will continue the corresponding investigations to clarify this incident and bring the person(s) responsible to justice.”
