Chetumal, Q.R. — A suspect wanted in the 2008 rape and murder of a 10 year old girl has finally been charged. The girl, who has not been identified, was raped and murdered in Chetumal in November of 2008.
On Monday, authorities reported on the official charges laid against the main suspect in the case, José “N”, alias “El Chilango”. Police say he has been charged “for his alleged relationship in acts possibly constituting the crimes of rape, aggravated rape and qualified homicide, to the detriment of a girl.”
In a statement, police said “the events for which José “N” is being investigated occurred on November 22, 2008, when he was returning home on a bicycle after working and having consumed alcoholic beverages.
“He passed through the Infonavit Proterritorio neighborhood where he allegedly saw and intercepted the 10-year-old victim.”

According to the police investigation, José “N” stopped to talk to her, giving her “some sweets”. At some point during the conversation, “he convinced her to walk with him, later taking her to a dirt area,” police reported.
“At that location, José “N” allegedly threatened the victim with a knife and raped her, but she tried to defend herself, so the suspect allegedly caused her injuries to her chest, arms, face and right leg. During the acts of defense, the victim managed to injure the suspect with the knife,” however, he used it to kill her.
An arrest warrant was issued for José “N” on December 15, 2025 and he was arrested the same day. A Chetumal judge imposed the precautionary measure of preventive detention. Authorities did not say if he is being investigated for his possible involvement in other crimes.
