Suspect arrested in deadly Cancun construction site shooting

Cancun, Q.R. — A suspect has been detained from a Cancun construction site after the discovery of a dead body. On Tuesday morning, Cancun police were notified of gunfire from a construction site in the city’s center of SM 3.

Responding officers found one man, already dead, from a gunshot wound. Area neighbors made the report of gun fire after hearing shots ring out from the site around 8:30 a.m.

In a brief note, Policía de Cancún confirmed an arrest. “Derived from the events that occurred on Av. Bonampak, in Supermanzana 3, we managed to arrest one person.”

Police were called to the same construction site days earlier after 911 reports of the arrival of armed men. A group of eight armed men were reported to have arrived at the construction site where they began to intimidate workers into extortion payments and drug sales.

Three people were arrested from the area by Cancun police. Two were found on site, while a third man was found hiding in nearby mangrove.
