Sudden squall leaves downed trees, damage to Puerto Aventuras homes

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — A squall that entered the coastal region Tuesday evening left felled trees and material damage to several Puerto Aventuras homes and vehicles.

Although surrounding regions also recorded the strong winds, Puerto Aventuras was the hardest hit when the isolated storm landed, causing trees to fall, an overhead CFE wire to collapse and debris to fly.

The squall was recorded around 7:30 p.m. when it began to affect the central coastal areas. Residents of the town began reporting fallen trees and flying debris that had Civil Protection personnel out in an attempt to clear blocked roads, while CFE personnel tended to a downed power line.

Brief rains followed the strong winds. Several homeowners also reported damage to their houses and / or vehicles by flying debris. At least 20 city workers were out cleaning the mess. There were no reports of human injuries.
