Stranded Mahahual fishermen rescued after engine failure

Mahahual, Q.R. — Three Mahahual fishermen who found themselves stranded at sea were returned to land by marina personnel. The Secretary of the Navy made the rescue Wednesday night approximately five nautical miles (1.85 kilometers) east of Mahahual.

In a Thursday afternoon statement, the Secretary of the Navy reported on the rescue of the three Mahahual fishermen who became stranded after their boat’s engine failed.

“This action was carried out after receiving a call for help through the emergency channel, where one of the crew members requested support since they were on board a smaller boat which had lost propulsion.

“Due to the above and with the objective of safeguarding human life at sea, the immediate departure of a Defender type vessel from the ENSAR of Chetumal was ordered with trained personnel, who rescued the three crew members.”
