Chetumal, Q.R. — A State Police patrol unit was involved in an intersection crash in the city of Chetumal over the weekend. The police unit was hit by a private car while transporting a prisoner.
The State Police unit and private car met at the intersection of Andrés Quintana Roo and Bugambilias Avenues in Chetumal while the truck was transferring an inmate from the Cereso (prison) of Chetumal to court Friday.
According to information, the police truck was hit by the private car while passing through a marked intersection. There are allegations the police truck failed to stop.
Two people from inside the private vehicle were injured, including an elderly man who was treated at the scene by medical responders.
Traffic was at a standstill while the mess was sorted out and the vehicles towed. The private car was heavily damaged in the crash.
