Chetumal, Q.R. — Authorities in the city of Chetumal were called to the scene of an early morning shooting. A man was reported shot and killed Wednesday morning in the Kilómetro 5 neighborhood of the city.

State police arrived at the scene of the shooting on Aarón Merino Fernández Street where they found a man laying face down on the road.
Neighbors who reported the shooting to police said they heard at least five gun blasts before noticing the man.
Initial reports have identified the Chetumal man only by the initials of M.G. Responding officers began a search for the gunmen responsible for the fatal 7:30 a.m. shooting.
Personnel from the Attorney General (FGE) of the Southern District began collecting evidence, which reports say included seven spent shell casings from the street.
Surrounding street access was closed to traffic while forensics processed the scene and removed the body.
