Southern Quintana Roo highway cleared of landslide debris

Chetumal, Q.R. — The National Emergency Commission says they have cleared a section of highway south of Quintana Roo after it was affected by recent landslides from heavy rain.

In a statement, they reported working along the Rovirosa – Esteban B. Calderón section of highway in the south. They say brigade members of the federal agency, together with Civil Protection personnel from the municipality of Othón O. Blanco, worked to remove rocks and debris that blocked a majority of the highway during the landslide.

The municipal government reported that the softening of the earth caused large stones to partially close the road, a situation that was addressed to avoid accidents.

Eusebio Rosado Sosa, head of Civil Protection explained that with the support of heavy machinery, brigade members of the National Emergency and Community Commission managed to clear the road after several hours of efforts.

He added that the rainy season is very active this year, so vigilance will be maintained on this section of highway.
