Cancun, Q.R. — Arrests have been made in the broad daylight murder of a Cancun dentist earlier this month. Police have identified those responsible for the daytime shooting as Yael “N” and Jordán “N”.
State prosecutor Raciel López Salazar said Monday that both men are facing charges for their role in the murder that left the 55 year old dentist, Tomás “M”, dead on the street behind a Cancun plaza.
According to López Salazar, Yael “N”, alias “Pelón”, has been identified as the likely shooter, and Jordán “N”, a Cuban national, is accused of monitoring the victim’s movements then reporting them to Yael.
The shooting happened on September 19 when Tomás “M” was intercepted by the men after leaving his office on a Saturday afternoon. He was loading items into the back of his car when he was shot repeatedly.
López Salazar reported that according to their investigation, 30 year old Yael “N” and 25 year old Jordán “N” had met beforehand in an apartment in SM 98 to plan the attack.
He said Yael “N” went to the dental office as a patient and paid for a cleaning in order to identify the doctor. He then went to a store on Nichupté Avenue where he bought three raincoats before going to the plaza where he left a motorcycle that has since been seized by police.
While behind the plaza, Jordán “N” is alleged to have pretended to rummage through a garbage bin while he waited for the dentist to come out of the building.
Authorities said that was the moment Yael “N” approached the victim as he was walking to his car, shot him seven times with a 9mm handgun and fled.
López Salazar did not say if they believed others were involved in the shooting. Authorities are still investigating a motive for the fatal attack.
