Several areas of Chetumal under water after intense rain

Chetumal, Q.R. — At least 16 areas of the state’s capital city of Chetumal was left under water Monday. The system rolled in during the early morning hours and continued into daylight, drenching Chetumal.

One area most affected was Constituciónntes Avenue where several intersecting streets such as Tomas Aznar, Erick Paolo, Cacao and Chico Zapote Streets reported higher than usual water levels.

The heavy rain left the Caribe neighborhood with problems due to overflowing storm drains.

Due to flooded streets, the Quintana Roo Transit Directorate announced the closure of at least 16 roads in Chetumal. Police were out as part of the Rain Road Relief Operation.

On Monday, the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) of Quintana Roo posted that the Traffic Department reported that due to inclement weather, the “Rain Road Assistance Operation” was implemented.

Police had some roadways closed off with yellow tape due to fallen trees and other debris due to the intense rains. At least 16 streets were closed due to flooding or fallen trees.
