Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A Maya Train work suspension on Section 5 has been upheld by a Merida court after being challenged by Fonatur. The judicial suspension applies to the section of train that runs from Playa del Carmen to Tulum.
On Friday, a federal court confirmed the provisional suspension of construction along that section of Maya Train due to a lack of Environmental Impact Statement.
The magistrates of the Collegiate Court on Labor and Administrative Matters of Yucatan declared arguments of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) as unfounded after they sought to reverse the suspension that was ordered last month.
In April, Judge Fernando Novelo of the First District Court of Merida, granted a provisional suspension of Section 5 to a civil group. Later that same month, Fonatur challenged the decision, which they lost after it was determined that the project does not have authorization in the way of an Environmental Impact Statement.
Another challenge has since been filed.
