Cancun, Q.R. — The search for the crew of the sunken boat in Laguna Amor in Cancun has ended. According to Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil Quintana Roo, all four bodies have been recovered from the lagoon.
On Monday, the agency reported “after an intense coordinated search with the federal, state and municipal forces of Benito Juarez, we report the rescue of one person alive and the unfortunate death of four people.”
On Monday, a search and recovery team located the fourth and final body from the Cancun lagoon. Antonio Riveroll Ribbon, the Director of Civil Protection in the municipality of Benito Juárez, confirmed the discovery of the fourth body and the end of the search.
The four bodies were found over a three-day period after a boat of five headed out on the lagoon Saturday evening to go fishing. Along the way, they were struck by another vessel.
Their boat sank. One person from the boat, the sole survivor, managed to swim to a dock where he was able to request help. Search and rescue teams began to look for the missing crew.
One body was located Saturday evening just before dark. Two more bodies were found Sunday and the fourth, located on Monday.
