Chetumal, Q.R. — Police in Chetumal have arrested another taxi driver on allegations of driving while impaired. It is the second known case in as many weeks where a city cab driver has been found impaired behind the wheel.
Late Monday morning, Chetumal police took a taxi driver into custody after being caught driving while intoxicated. The incident occurred on Río Verde Street between Polyuc and Petcacab where the driver was detained.
The Chetumal city taxi driver was taken into custody after a public report of reckless driving. When police caught up with the driver, he showed clear signs of intoxication and was arrested for alcohol consumption. Police detained the taxi driver and secured his vehicle, preventing him from continuing to drive.
On March 17, another Chetumal taxi driver was also arrested for impaired driving. In that incident, a Chetumal taxi driver was arrested by police after being caught drunk on Héroes Avenue between Efraín Aguilar and Mahatma Gandhi in the Centro neighborhood of Chetumal.
Witnesses reported that the driver had been parked for a lengthy amount of time and that there were beer cans inside the car. Upon arrival, officers found the man showing signs of intoxication.

While he was not driving at the time, he was behind the wheel and found to be under the influence of alcohol. The taxi driver was jailed and his vehicle impound.
