Cancun, Q.R. — Human remains found floating off the shore of a Cancun beach are believed that of a missing swimmer. On Wednesday, authorities were made aware of the remains of a body found floating near the shore of Playa San Miguelito in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
It is the same Cancun beach were an early morning swimmer was reported missing days before. Family of the missing swimmer, Iván Rojas “M”, reported him missing on the morning of December 25.
The man is reported to have gone to the beach around 6:00 a.m. for an early morning swim, but failed to return. His family reported him missing and a search began.
“A search and rescue operation is being carried out in the Águila II, a helicopter of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), Civil Protection and Firefighters,” the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) reported at the time.
However, both ground and air crews came up empty handed. On Wednesday, the remains of the body found floating off an area of Playa San Miguelito matched the clothing description of the missing swimmer.
