Real estate development company facing possible permeant closure

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A real estate development company is facing the possible revocation of its construction permit for continuing an illegal burn. Municipal authorities have warned the CADU Real Estate Agency of a permanent closure.

Lourdes Vargas Ocampo, Solidaridad Director of Environment and Climate Change, explained that the municipal government has currently carried out a provisional closure despite the ongoing fires. Since then, the company’s lawyer has been summoned to appear before the municipal government within to pay a fine and reach agreements or the city will shut down the building project.

Municipal officials say the company burns knowing the smoke is a health hazard.

Ocampo says they are already compiling a file to be forwarded to the State Environment Secretariat to carry out verification against the housing company who have burned the unwanted construction material on three occasions, knowing the smoke is a health hazard.
