Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — During a recent meeting, the mayor of Puerto Morelos said the Maya Train will bring a new image to the town.
The meeting, which included representatives of Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (Fonatur), was held this week after the official announcement by AMLO that the Cancun-Tulum section of the train would begin in June.
“We talked about top-notch infrastructure issues in various areas that will lead Puerto Morelos to better development. The start of jobs will bring immediate benefits to the population such as the generation of jobs,” said Laura Fernández.
“We are pleased to hear that next month, work of the Maya Train will begin along the Cancun-Tulum section, which means the generation of sources of employment in our community. And that will help to cushion the blow to the economy caused by the health emergency,” she added.
Laura Fernández insisted that the public-private project will be a detonator to help compensate for the effects caused by the coronavirus pandemic. She said that in addition to the train project, the town is preparing for its relaunch, to begin to recover the flow of visitors in the second semester of the year.
“Although we are aware that it will be a slow process, we will not rest until we recover the greatness that characterizes us,” she noted.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently announced the next section of the train, the Cancun to Tulum section, saying that in June, construction will begin.
