Puerto Aventuras taxi driver treated for bullet wound after being shot by passengers

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — A Puerto Aventuras taxi driver is recovering after being shot Friday night. The male driver was shot by his passengers after providing a ride to a ranch outside Puerto Aventuras.

The driver was able to get himself to hospital after being hit in an arm.

Initial reports say a group of passengers were exiting the taxi at their destination of the San Josesito ranch located south of the Puerto Aventuras when they opened fire against the cab.

Police found three bullet holes in the outside of the taxi. One of those bullets hit the driver in his arm.

After the attack, the driver was able to get himself to the Puerto Aventuras Health Center where he received initial medical attention.

He was subsequently referred to the State Health Services (SESA) for further evaluation.

The taxi was impounded at the Puerto Aventuras taxi drivers’ union headquarters for further investigation. A police search for those responsible came up empty handed.

Authorities did not comment on a possible motive for the Friday night shooting against the Playa del Carmen cab driver.
