Puerto Aventuras officially has its own mayor’s office

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — As of January 1, the town of Puerto Aventuras will have its own mayor’s office. A temporary space along Cobá Street will serve as the official precinct for the provisional mayor.

Office space near the domo was designated after a unanimous vote in December to see the town of Puerto Aventuras elect its own head.

Solidaridad City Council, headed by mayor Lili Campos, made the announcement. It will also serve as the site for the swearing in ceremony of the town’s new interim mayor, Tomás Flores Benítez.

After his swearing in on January 1, the delegation of Puerto Aventuras will have until March 31 of 2022 to call elections for a mayor. The change was approved by city council in December after a vote of 13 to three.

An amendment to the existing Internal Regulations of the City Council and its Regulations for Elections was made to allow the town to have its own mayor under the current municipal head, Lili Campos.
