Puerto Aventuras mototaxi drivers protest police abuse of power

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Dozens of motortaxi drivers protested abuse of power, accusing police of corruption. The unionized drivers made their voices heard Saturday outside a sub-command police station of Puerto Aventuras.

“Enough of corruption and abuse of power” and “Stop robbing the people” were some of the handwritten signs held by the upset drivers. The drivers gathered around noon, an hour before a planned meeting with CROC union leaders and Public Security.

The motorcycle taxi drivers said the purpose of the meeting was to mediate the conflicts between the drivers and police, who some accuse of planting narcotics, while others told of daily “routine inspections”.

According to information obtained, the planned meeting between CROC and Public Security lead to an agreement that while routine inspections will continue, they will be done in accordance to protocol, since lack of protocol reviews was one of the biggest complaints by the mototaxi drivers.
