Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum November 5, 2026.

The president celebrated the democratic victory of California’s Governor-elect Xavier Becerra and Texas’s Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa.

“Both have either one or both parents born in Mexico,” Sheinbaum said. “They have a connection to their state, their proposal, but also to Mexicans. We are very pleased that Mexican-Americans who are there have this participation and this recognition.:

Sheinbaum says the shift from Republican to Democratic is a reflection of the sentiment of Americans.

“It reflects the sentiment of the American people,” she noted regarding the recent mid-term elections in the neighboring country.

Sheinbaum said that regardless of the election results, Mexico seeks the best relationship with the United States based on full respect for sovereignty.

“We have to wait, but the talks related to, for example, the trade issue, are continuing normally.

“It’s too early to know if anything will change, given the election results. For now, talks continue with the secretaries and with President Trump himself.”
