Police make historic weapons seizure used in CJNG criminal territory from Isla Mujeres to Puerto Morelos

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Personnel with the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) have reported a historic weapons seizure in the northern zone. Their weekend seizure included handguns, rifles, grenades, silencers and bullet proof vests and the arrests of two men believed working a large area of the north including Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Kantunilkín and Isla Mujeres.

Authorities say Marcos Josué “N” and Ángel Roberto “N,” alias “El Flaco” are in custody for illegal weapons possession. They are also being investigated for drug trafficking.

In a statement, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) said “the detainees are suspected members of the CJNG criminal group. Marcos Josué “N” is considered the main logistics operator, responsible for the distribution of weapons and tactical equipment in Cancun as well as in Puerto Morelos, Kantunilkín and Isla Mujeres.”

During their arrests, police reported the seizure of two handguns with magazines loaded with 7 and 11 rounds, 32 rifles, all with magazines, one with 56 rounds and another with 30, 12 handguns with magazines, 125 rifle magazines and two silencers.

Four riot grenades and four chemical grenades, 26 boxes of cartridges of different calibers with 50 cartridges each, 17 boxes with 20 cartridges each, nine bulletproof vests, nine black T-shirts with the inscription “Deltas Q. Roo CJNG”, 15 black “Operativas Jaguar” caps and six “Deltas Operativo Jaguar” patches.

During their search, authorities reported finding bags of marijuana, crystal meth and powdered cocaine.

“Five notebooks with handwritten notes, two backpacks, three plastic boxes, a cooler, a suitcase, four cell phones, a large case, a gray case, three drones (one with a controller and two batteries), two pairs of license plates from the state of Jalisco and two vehicles: a gray Volkswagen T-Cross and another Nissan Frontier, white in color,” were also part of the mass seizure.

The evidence, as well as the detainees, were turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking.

Authorities noted that the inspection, seizure and arrests were a coordinated effort of the security task force comprised of the SSC (Secretariat of Citizen Security), the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the National Guard, and the FGE (State Attorney General’s Office), thus reaffirming the commitment to combat organized crime head-on to safeguard the well-being of the people of Quintana Roo.
