Police have suspect in Cancun La Palapita restaurant fire in custody

Cancun, Q.R. — A suspect in what is believed to have been an intentionally set restaurant fire in Cancun has been arrested. Police reported Friday on the arrest of 25 year old Luis Antonio “N”.

He was taken into police custody for disobedience and resistance Friday. After his detainment, police said he is suspected of being involved in a Cancun restaurant fire earlier that same day.

“Officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit (SMSCyT) arrested a man for his alleged involvement in the crimes of disobedience and resistance by private citizens,” Cancun police said in a statement.

“Luis Antonio “N”, 25 years old, was arrested after officers patrolling Kabah Avenue near Superblock 248, observed a man disturbing the peace.

“The officers approached him and informed him that he was committing an administrative offense, however, the man began using offensive language against the officers, so they asked him to calm down.

“However, the suspect attempted to physically assault the police officers, which is why he was arrested.”

Police have not said what part they believe he played in the early morning fire that left La Palapita restaurant in ruins, nor did they provide a possible motive.

The early morning fire left the restaurant gutted Friday January 30, 2026.

Early Friday morning, Cancun firemen battled a restaurant fire in SM 248. The Kabah Avenue fire happened around 4:30 a.m. that left the restaurant destroyed.
