Chetumal, Q.R. — A public services worker died Thursday morning after being struck by a taxi the night before. The man was on duty cleaning city property when he was hit by a cab that kept going.

The city worker was rushed to hospital where he died several hours later. Police are searching for the responsible Chetumal taxi driver. The incident happened at an intersection along Avenidas Reforma. The deceased worker has been identified as 10-year city employee José Ismael Miss Canché.
In a statement Thursday, Othón P. Blanco Mayor Yensunni Martínez, released the name of the city worker killed along with a brief statement.
“With profound sadness, we join in the grief felt by family and friends over the passing of our colleague José Ismael Miss Canché, an exemplary employee of the Municipal Public Services Department. Rest in peace.”

Witnesses to the Wednesday night hit and run were able to provide police with the cab number that subsequently killed the city worker. Police are in search of that driver who has since been identified as Armando “G”.
