Mahahual, Q.R. — At least one armed man remains in police custody after being arrested in Mahahual Sunday. Rural Police officers arrested a man found handling a high-powered gun.
During his personal inspection, he was also found in possession of hundreds of rounds of ammunition and tactical gear.
The arrest took place during a security and surveillance patrol when officers saw the man handling a long gun. He was seen leaning against the back of a white Quintana Roo-plated SUV with the weapon.
Patrolling officers immediately approached and arrested him. In custody is 27 year old Mario “N”. At the time of the search was carrying an M4 carbine assault rifle, 5.56 caliber with a loaded magazine of 30 rounds of ammunition.
A further inspection revealed seven additional magazines for 5.56 caliber ammunition (totaling 220 rounds of this caliber) and one magazine with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police also located two green ballistic helmets and two tactical vests with military-style camouflage along with two additional empty magazines and a damaged Redmi brand cell phone.
Mario “N” and the seized weapons, tactical equipment and vehicle were transferred to the city of Chetumal for legal processing. He remains in the custody of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) in Chetumal. Police have not yet released his photo.
