Chetumal, Q.R. — Municipal police officers assisted a young man after escaping his abductors. On Friday morning, a man of around 25 ran inside a store on Maxuxac Avenue asking for help after being abducted.

Police were notified around 3:00 a.m. of the man inside the store, who was found shot and beaten. The manager reported that the wounded man arrived desperate and banged on the door asking for help.
According to his testimony, he was forced inside a car from the Comité Proterritorio neighborhood after visiting his girlfriend at a bar. When he walked out of the bar, he was shoved into a vehicle and driven around at which time he was physically assaulted.
The first time he tried to escape, he was shot in the leg. He eventually managed to escape the vehicle and run to a store for help. He was transferred to the Chetumal General Hospital where he underwent surgery for his gunshot wound.

The man told police he did not know his attackers and was unaware of their reason for the attack. Personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) launched a search operation from the scene but were unsuccessful in finding those responsible.
