Playa del Carmen police officer abducted in Chetumal found after being injured and released

Chetumal, Q.R. — An active police officer reported abducted over the weekend has been located. The officer was intercepted by armed men Saturday afternoon and released hours later injured.

A large search operation was deployed across the city of Chetumal Saturday night in search of the officer. Authorities were in search of 30 year old Oscar David “N” who was forced into another vehicle after getting out of his own Saturday.

The abduction happened as the off-duty officer got out of his private yellow Mustang after parking in front of a business. He was forced into a waiting vehicle by armed men from the Santa María neighborhood where he parked.

Two vehicles, a pickup truck and Jetta car, were reported involved in the broad daylight abduction off Calzada del Centenario Street. Police began an intense search for the officer with ground patrols, highway vehicle inspections and overflights.

Hours later, the officer was released and located with visible signs of a physical assault while being held captive. The off-duty officer had traveled to the city of Chetumal to visit family on a day off at the time of the incident.

He is reported to be an active Investigative Police Officer based in Playa del Carmen. The extent of his physical injuries while being held captive are unknown.

No official details have been released regarding where he was found or the circumstances of his release.
