Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — “Congruent with my request to the population to take care of themselves and be aware of their health, I inform them that I took the test for COVID-19 and it came out positive,” announced Playa del Carmen mayor, Laura Beristain Navarrete.
The mayor said through social media that she does not have symptoms, but will be working from home under medical supervision.
“I thank everyone for their displays of love and support. As municipal president, I am the first person interested in guaranteeing the health of all citizens, that is why I ask you not to lower your guard with prevention measures: healthy distance, hand hygiene and the use of face masks,” she said.
According to the CDC, “available evidence from contact tracing reported by countries suggests that asymptomatically infected individuals are much less likely to transmit the virus than those who develop symptoms.”
