Pickup driver runs intersection stop sign killing elderly bicyclist

Chetumal, Q.R. — Paramedics pronounced a bicyclist dead Sunday after he was struck by a pickup. Witnesses at the scene told police that the driver ran a marked intersection without stopping.

Police were called to the the intersection of Palermo Avenue and Bugambilias Street within the 8 de Octubre neighborhood.

According to the initial Traffic report, the victim was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a white Ford Ranger truck with  State of Mexico plates.

Eye witnesses stated that the driver of the pickup truck crossed the intersection without stopping at the marked stop. He hit the bicycle, throwing its rider onto the pavement. The man was found laying in the street a few meters from his bike.

An ambulance arrived to provide first aid to the cyclist, however, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has only been identified as a local elderly man.
