Patrolling officers locate abandoned vehicle reported stolen with tactical gear and tire spikes

Cancun, Q.R. — Patrolling officers came upon an abandoned vehicle they found to contain bags of tactical equipment. The un-plated truck was found parked across a street with a broken passenger’s side window Tuesday night.

Inside, police found tactical gear as well as a box of tire spikes and a set of Yucatan license plates. According to the SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security), the vehicle was located on a dirt road off Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta Street in Alfredo V. Bonfil ejido of Cancun.

The vehicle, which was a company found with an active theft report from 2024, was towed to police facilities.

“The SSC secures an abandoned truck with tactical equipment. Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, while on prevention and surveillance tours, noticed an abandoned white truck that was across the middle of the street which had a broken window on the passenger side.

“The events occurred on a dirt road Sin Nombre in the direction of Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta street, located in superblock 307 of the Alfredo V. Bonfil ejido in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

“Because it was affecting the safety and traffic of other vehicles and pedestrians, the corresponding inspection was carried out. It was verified with the C5 Security Complex and a theft report from the year 2024 was obtained.

“Next, when checking the back of the truck, the following were seized: a brown and black tactical vest, a pair of Yucatan state license plates, a gray and black pixelated pant, a black fanny pack, 50 rusty iron star-shaped tire spikes and a Volkswagen Crafter-type truck (van), with the legend “Idealease” in blue, without license plates.

“The evidence was made available to the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo,” the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) reported.
