Cozumel, Q.R. — More than 90,000 cruise passengers are expected on the island of Cozumel this week with the arrival of ships. A total of 33 luxury vessels are scheduled to dock the island’s piers before the week is out.
With an average ship passenger capacity of 3,000, around 90,000 guests are expected for the week of January 29 to February 3. Cruising Caribbean ships will begin arriving to Cozumel Monday with the scheduled docking of four vessels.
One of those vessels, Norwegian Escape has a passenger capacity of more than 4,200 while Seven Seas Grandeur, also expected Monday, will arrive with just over 700 passengers.
On Tuesday, the island will host seven vessels with the Norwegian Breakaway being the largest with just under 4,000 passengers. On Wednesday, another five ships are scheduled to arrive with more than 21,000 travelers between them.
Thursday will also be busy with the arrival of another seven ships carrying around 21,300 passengers and Friday, over 36,000 cruise passengers are expected on five vessels.
For Saturday, a total of five ships are scheduled. Each of those ships will spend the day docked at one of Cozumel’s three piers before moving on.
In the first two weeks of this year, 106 cruise ships docked in Quintana Roo between the passenger terminals of Mahahual and Cozumel. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa says these figures confirm the tourism leadership of the state.
