Cancun, Q. R. — Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta has appointed David Flores Cervantes as Director of the Preventive Police of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Traffic.
In a brief statement, Peralta said the appointment is to give continuity to crime prevention strategies.
“As established by the protocol, once the proposal was unanimously accepted by the lobbying body, the First Municipal Authority took the legal protest to the public servant, who is entrusted to perform the position with all the principles of loyalty and patriotism, looking always for the good and integrity of the citizens and tourists who visit the destination,” she said in her brief public statement.
The change came during the same month two Cancun police officers were shot and killed in two separate incidences. One officer, a man, was shot and killed during a city chase involving armed youth.
The second incident happened earlier this week when an off-duty female corrections officer was approached by subjects on a motorcycle and shot several times outside her home.
