Mahahual, Q.R. — An operational truck from the Mexican Navy Secretariat caught fire Saturday morning outside Mahahual. The truck, which was carrying personnel, was on its way to attend to a sargassum beach clean up when the engine began to smoke.
Governor Mara Lezama, who was in the area at the time also attending to the Mahahual sargassum beach clean up, reported on the fire. She said that the fire, which ended up burning the entire vehicle, was caused by a mechanical failure and was not a targeted attack as reported by some local media.
Lezama also stressed that the military vehicle was not transporting any type of fuel at the time of the fire. Firemen were quick to the scene to deal with the burning truck. No one was injured in the vehicle mishap.
