Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Packaged tours are starting to emerge for Maya Train passenger options. National tour operators are selling the Maya Train packages that include hotel and stopovers at various points along the route.
Angélica Villatoro, representative of the Travel por México wholesale operator said they have begun offering Tren Maya travel packages. She says the multi-night package includes entry tickets to sites as well as hotel and station to hotel transfers.
“We have been offering Maya Train packages, which we are currently operating. The packages range from four nights to five days, including tickets to the emblematic sites of each state as well as accommodations and transfers from the station to the hotel.
“The package also includes tours and of course, the Maya Train tickets,” she said.
According to Villatoro, the Maya Train packages have been well received by customers who are not only looking for transportation or the train experience, but also the experience of each place.
She says for Chiapas they sell the experience of the Sumidero Canyon and Palenque, for Campeche the haciendas and in Yucatán, Chichén Itzá.
“This is a package that goes from Tuxtla (Chiapas) to Cancun and includes the entire circuit. We receive them at the Tuxtla Gutiérrez airport and later they visit the Canyon (del Sumidero), one night in San Cristóbal and there we take them to Palenque where they see the archaeological zone the Agua Azul Waterfalls and Misol Há.
“The next day they stay in Campeche one night, visit the main sites and from there we return to the station again. They stay in Mérida one night and visit Chichén Itzá until they reach Cancun where their service ends and the client decides whether to stay in the hotel zone or go to the airport,” she explained.
Villatoro said that that is not a set agenda and that the circuit can be divided according to the interests of the traveler, she said, by starting in Mérida or doing it the other way around and extending the itinerary.
She says so far, the majority are Tren Maya clients are from the center of the country, as well as from Monterrey, but there has been some foreign tourism as well.
