Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Mobility Institute (IMOVEQROO) says so far this year, they have already fined 700 public transport drivers for failing to follow covid health protocols.
The director of the Institute, Jorge Pérez said “so far this year, there have been 700 sanctioned due to overcrowding and non-use of face masks.” He added that there have also been 250 complaints in the northern zone of the state by citizens who have reported taxi overcrowding.
“For taxis, it is only three and the driver,” he said adding that the most common reason for driver fines of public transport units is the lack of healthy distance followed by the use of mouth masks. He noted that only 12 passengers are allowed in a van. He says that fines range from 2,172 peso to 26,664 peso.
Pérez continues to urge citizens to report taxis, vans and bus drivers who ignore the sanitary health measures.
