More than 40 injured, 1 killed when Mexico City subway trains collide

Mexico City, Mexico — At least one person was killed and more than 40 injured when two trains on the Mexico City subway system collided Tuesday night at the Tacubaya station.

The Metro Collective Transportation System reported that around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the No. 33 train hit the No. 38 train on the track at the Tacubaya station on Metro Line 1.

The transportation system reported that according to preliminary information, so far 41 injuries have been reported including the drivers of the two trains, “and a male person who lost his life.”

Claudia Sheinbaum, head of the Gobierno de la Ciudad de México, confirmed that there are at least 41 injured and one deceased person and said that she will provide an update as to the reason for the colission after experts have had a chance to make that determination.
