More Ejidos from south of state demand compensation for Maya Train land use

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Another group of Ejidos in southern Quintana Roo are blocking roads in demand of Maya Train land use compensation. Ejidos from X-Maben in Felipe Carrillo Puerto are also now wanting land use compensation for the train to pass.

The group blocked a secion of the Tres Reyes-Chumpón highway near section 6 of the upcoming train project. They say the government will use approximately 10 kilometers of their land to lay train tracks.

Candido Pat, President of the committee for the defense of communal lands, said that there has been a lack of commitment by Cristina Torres, who is the Government Secretary of the State, to meet for talks with representatives of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur).

“We were given a period of 10 days to have talks with Fonatur as well as with all those involved in the Maya Train and to date, they have not responded,” he said.

After blocking the highway for several hours, Julio César Castillo, an Army major, arrived to discuss future talks.
