Miscalculation leaves semi wedged under Chetumal city overpass

Chetumal, Q.R. — A tow truck was called to remove a wedged semi from under a Chetumal overpass in the city Friday. Chetumal Transit were at the site in response to motorist’s reports of the early morning accident.

A semi-trailer became stuck under a city overpass early Friday morning, snarling traffic. The incident happened on Insurgentes Avenue causing disruptions in one of the busiest sections of Chetumal.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. when the driver of the semi attempted to clear an overpass. While the cab made it, the trailer did not.

The vehicle hit the bridge, causing the entire unit to become stuck. In an attempt to move forward, the driver repeatedly hit the bridge in maneuvers to keep going. In doing so, he caused significant damage to the trailer.

The semi driver caused his unit to partially obstruct the road, blocking early morning traffic. Authorities found the semi wedged against the lower part of the concrete overpass.

City Transit worked with a tow truck company to remove the wedged semi from below the overpass September 18, 2026.

City Transit worked with a tow truck company to free the trailer, while traffic in the area remained partially affected for the duration of the work. There were no comments on possible charges.
