Cancun, Q.R. — Nearly 300 million pesos will be budgeted to serve the hotel zone of Cancun in 2025. The money is being set aside when Foatqroo, the trust that will manage all maintenance, begins operations.
Jesús Almaguer, the President of the Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, said the details were laid out during a late November meeting. At that meeting, a project plan for the hotel zone was presented.
The presentation detailed both attention required by the hotel zone as well as new projects in the modernization of its image and services. The executive plan and projects will be carried out by the Trust for the Strengthening of Tourism Activity in the State of Quintana Roo (Foatqroo).
The Fideicomiso para el Fortalecimiento de la Actividad Turística en el estado de Quintana Roo (Foatqroo) will replace the actions and operations that now-defunct Fonatur had been carrying out in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
Almaguer said they are happy with the program that is in place, both in terms of maintenance and renovation, as well as the projects. He says the projects set for next year include the modernization of urban infrastructure and service systems, which also includes cleaning and improving the Nichupté lagoon, which is essential in the hotel zone of Cancun.
He explained that plans are also being made to address the destination’s image by dealing with abandoned properties, beach attention, repaving, lighting, and more.
All of this, he said, is supported by a trust that will have federal, state and municipal contributions with an estimated budget of nearly 300 million pesos.
The trust committee, he said, will be the ones who determine the priority of the projects, but in general, he says it is off to a good start. He says there is confidence that the tourist area will be renovated and modernized which will allow it to continue being the main tourist corridor of the state and in the country.
