Mexico producing its first test batch of Sputnik V

Mexico City, Mexico — The company Laboratorios de Biológicos y Reactivos México (Birmex) will produce the first test batch of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, announced the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

In a statement, the RDIF said Mexico becomes the first country in North America to register Sputnik V and launch local production of the Russian vaccine, which will be used in their national vaccination program.

“The production of the test batch is an important step in the technology transfer process and we expect the batch to meet the most stringent requirements. Sputnik V has been used successfully in Mexico for months, demonstrating an excellent safety and efficacy profile,” commented Kirill Dmitriev, executive director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

“As RDIF and its partners launch local production of the vaccine, we are striving to provide easier access to Sputnik V for the population of Mexico and help accelerate the vaccination program,” he said.

To date, Sputnik V has been used by more than 3.5 billion people in 67 countries. Based on analysis data, Sputnik V has an efficiency rate of 97.6 percent said the RDIF.
