Mexico City, Mexico — Mexico City has became “The Most Connected City” in the world after obtaining the Guinness World Record for having 21,500 free WiFi access points.
The CDMX surpassed the city of Moscow, which was previously the most connected . Mexico City has also beaten out both Seoul and Tokyo for having the most free WiFi hotspots.
José Antonio Peña Merino, head of the CDMX Digital Agency for Public Innovation, said that the hotspots do not capture personal data, nor are there any time or content limitations for users.
He said that next year, the free Internet will be enabled in elementary schools, secondary schools, IEMS, UACM, Rosario Castellanos Institute, Health University and in the 1,800 housing units, guaranteeing connectivity to more people, especially to those with the least possibility of obtaining it on their own.
