Mexico City mayor urging traveling residents to take a free covid test upon returning

Mexico City, Mexico — With the city finally out of the red, Mexico City mayor says she would like all vacationing residents to take a covid test upon returning. Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum says having returning travelers tested could avoid a new wave of covid infections.

“People who went out of town, who went on vacation at Easter, please take the Covid test. If you have any symptoms, no matter how minor or had someone around you who tested positive for Covid, you should be tested.”

“It is a way in which we can all participate so that we avoid a new wave of Covid,” she said in a press video conference.

Sheinbaum is urging all residents of Mexico City who left the capital during the Easter holiday season to take a free Covid test in any of the city’s health centers or pharmacies.

She said that the location for free testing can be consulted through an SMS text message with the word “test” or “covid19” to the number 51515 or visit the city’s website, she added.

She clarified that in the event someone tests positive, the Mexico City administration will provide a kit of medication and carry out a medical follow-up by telephone or home visit.
