Mexican Association of Receptive Tourism Agencies created

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Riviera Maya associated travel agencies have separated from AMAV and created Amatur, the Mexican Association of Receptive Tourism Agencies.

The Mexican Association of Travel Agencies in Quintana Roo (Amav) has reported that it has become the Mexican Association of Receptive Tourism Agencies (Amatur).

The announcement was made by Sergio González Rubiera, President of Amatur, who has integrated the associations of travel agencies from Cancun, Cozumel, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Maya.

“The main function of the travel agencies of the tourist destinations in Mexico is the provision of receptive services to wholesalers, tour operators and online travel agencies (OTAs) who represent 80 percent of the tourists who arrive at these destinations.

“In this sense, we formed Amatur (Asociación Mexicana de Agencias de Turismo Receptivo) in order to represent the interests of our associates,” González Rubiera explained.

Amstar, Despegar, Best Day, Grupo Epic, Lomas Travel, Mayaland, Nexus Tours, Discova, TUI Group, Viajes Thomas More, Trafic Tours, Viajes Caribe Maya, Vacaciones Barceló, World2Meet are only some of the agencies associated with Amatur.

Other partners include excursion providers such as Xcaret, Delphinus, Dolphin Discovery, Alltournative, Aventuras Mayas, Captain Hook, Dolphinaris and Autotur.

“At Amatur, we are very enthusiastic about the launch of our Association thanks to our business partners who will benefit, but, above all, the tourists who arrive at these tourist destinations,” González Rubiera said.

“We decided to disassociate ourselves from the national AMAV and for the disassociation to be real and authentic and complete, we totally changed the image,” explained González Rubiera who said the new association has three vice presidents, Juan Carlos del Río in Los Cabos, Ivonne Opalin in Cozumel and Ernesto Covarrubias in Puerto Vallarta.

Sergio González Rubiera, who heads the new Amatur, is in Quintana Roo.
