Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The new Playa del Carmen section 5 north route for the Maya Train is likely to pass through The Villas del Sol subdivision. Mayor Lili Campos made the announcement on Monday during a weekly report.
She revealed that the decision was made during a city council meeting with the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) and the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu). From that meeting, officials agreed to begin the corresponding area studies.
“We have already agreed during the city council session to give consent for the purpose of carrying out the studies and the corresponding projects that are required for the development of the project,” she explained.
Campos said that they will ask the federal government to contemplate a station in the Villas del Sol area to generate greater added value and allow the economic development of local commerce.
Teresita Flora, secretary of Territorial Planning and Sustainability, explained that the new route will run parallel to highway 307 about five kilometers away from the federal highway to the west.
“The topographic demarcation, the forestry surveys, the archaeological studies, the preparation of appraisals and quantification of assets, the tours and environmental studies are what will be carried out by the Federal Government, by Fonatur, by Sedatu,” she said.
