Maya Train project presented at Madrid tourism fair

Cancun, Q.R. — The Secretariat of Tourism along with the governments of the southeastern states of the country have prepared the “attractive anchor” that will serve the tourist circuits of the upcoming Maya Train.

During the current Tourism Fair in Madrid, Mexican officials have presented the project. The Secretariat of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, says that the Maya Train will be modern and dignified with speeds of between 150 to 160 kms per hour.

He explained that during the fair, they have “made a presentation in a virtual reality room so others can see the progress of the project.” Torruco Marqués added that during the presentation, interested parties can see the train will be outfitted with a large dining room, smoking lounge and panoramic lounge.

“We are very motivated because one of the most strategic programs of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is linked to everything that is the south of our country, the Maya Train. What will be the great work in tourism will benefit the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco and Chiapas,” he said.

He clarified that the train will depart from Cancun International Airport and go through Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Bacalar, Campeche, Calakmul , Escárcega, Palenque, Ciudad de Campeche, Mérida, Chichen Itzá and finally Valladolid.

In the dining room, the train will serve regional food, adding that the train will not only be for tourists, but also transport employees to their places of work along with cargo transport.
