Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — Maya Train advancements continue west of Playa del Carmen with the clearing of jungle. Workers continue to remove trees to make way for the upcoming Section 5 of the train.
After being moved from going through the center of Playa del Carmen, the tracks have been relocated to city’s west side where trees are being cleared near Villas del Sol.
After a large section of felling and clearing, the municipal government has ordered an inspection to be carried out on the site to prepare a survey. To date, the land cleared has been on communal land and advancing in a straight line.
Municipal authorities are verifying whether the work done in the urban area, within the subdivision of Villas del Sol, affected the municipal land for which measurements must be carried out.
On February 11, the City Council approved a series of consent requests made by Sedatu and Fonatur-Tren Maya SA de CV to initiate studies and work corresponding to the megaproject within the boundaries of 16 properties owned by the municipality.
What is expressly authorized is located within the limits of the 16 buildings owned by the city council, Sedatu and Fonatur (Maya Train), to carry out “in an enunciative and non-limiting manner”, topographic demarcations, placement of references and landmarks, forest surveys and archaeological studies , in collaboration with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
