Marketing analysis will determine feasibility of new shipping dock for Mahahual

Mahahual, Q.R. — Private companies are conducting a market analysis to determine the feasibility of building a shipping dock in Mahahual. Artemio Santos Santos, the General Coordination of Advisors of the Office of the Government of Quintana Roo, said a dock would activate the south of the state economically.

He says various companies have expressed interest in investing in the construction of a loading dock in the seaside town. Without a doubt, the proposal would contribute to the economic consolidation of the southern area of Quintana Roo since it would become a strategic point for imports and exports.

He says such a project could have a positive impact not only in the state, but also at a national level since the dock could be useful for neighboring points that do not have one and are closer to the area.

He pointed out that the market studies that will determine the feasibility of the dock have already been started. Once complete, the next step will be up to the private sector which will consist of choosing the place where the dock would be built and the amount of the investment.

Money to construction a merchandise dock will come from the investing company, he says, while the state would grant the concession.

“Maritime market experts and shipping companies see a real possibility there, and there are also some other possibilities in the north,” he said. The proposal is still pending approval from those involved.
