Cozumel, Q.R. — Additional security has begun to arrive on the island of Cozumel. On Wednesday night, the first 100 elements of the Marine Infantry Special Forces arrived. In coming days, additional marines will be sent to the island.
Their arrival is part of a security strategy to help with crime efforts on the island. According to the information provided within Public Security, Navy personnel from Mexico City will continue to arrive in the following days to join crime prevention and crime fighting efforts.
Upon arrival, the SEMAR personnel were transferred aboard six local police units to he Navy to the facilities of the 23rd Infantry Battalion located on 65 South Avenue.
The SEMAR personnel (la Secretaría de Marina) were received by Captain Rodrigo Rodríguez Peña, the Director of Public Security and Traffic in the municipality of Cozumel, before being transferred to the facilities of the Secretary of the Navy in Cozumel.
