Chetumal, Q.R. — The main suspect in the 2023 slaying of a Guanajuato woman has been captured in the city of Chetumal. Police said Monday that 41 year old José Carlos “N” was arrested for the shooting death of Alejandra Carapia Barroso.
The victim, a second sergeant in the Mexican Army, was shot to death in October 2023 in Irapuato, Guanajuato. Her family had demanded that the case be investigated as a femicide.
Elements of the Ministerial Police of the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office carried out an arrest warrant against José Carlos “N” identified as the alleged perpetrator of the femicide of Alejandra Carapia Barroso.
The 41 year old suspect is also originally from Irapuato, Guanajuato where the murder took place.
The case dates back to October 16, 2023 when Alejandra Carapia, a second sergeant in the Mexican Army, was shot to death inside her home in the city of Irapuato on her birthday.
Gun shots were reported coming from the home at 6:30 a.m. She was found by one of her sons critically wounded. She later died. José Carlos “N” was her boyfriend at the time of her death and became the main suspect.
Police said Monday that José Carlos “N” was arrested in the Pacto Obrero neighborhood of Chetumal and handed over to Guanajuato authorities to face charges.
