Loss of brakes said cause of Puerto Aventuras rear end that sent three to hospital

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Three people were taken to hospital with neck injuries from a two vehicle rear end in Puerto Aventuras. Ambulance and police personnel were at the site of the two vehicle crash Tuesday off the federal highway.

A combi carrying passengers along the Playa del Carmen-Puerto Aventuras route was yielded at the entrance to the federal highway when it was hit from behind by a cargo truck.

The accident happaned at the base of the town’s overpass that leads to the highway. Early information says the driver of the cargo truck experienced brake failure as it approached the yielded collectivo.

The impact from the hit resulted in considerable damaged to the back of the combi including a popped window. The cargo truck was with Yucatan plates and belonged to an ice company. Three people from inside the cargo truck were transferred to hospital.

Due to the accident, the side road next to the overpass was temporarily closed while emergency services transferred the injured to hospital and National Guard had the vehicles towed.
